2020 Environmental Law Conference at Yosemite: Tribal Water Rights and Resources in a Changing Climate
From the Klamath waters to the Western desert valleys, recent court rulings highlight the important and evolving role of tribal reserved water rights and resource management. Since time immemorial, Native American tribes throughout California and the West have perfected strategies for sustainable resource management in an ever-changing climate. They continue to lead the way amid drastic conditions - offering tools and strategies of benefit to non-tribal water rights holders, the public, and protected species. This panel features leading experts in tribal water rights litigation and policy and will explore the future of tribal water rights and resource management that, while centered on the rights of tribes and the public trust, includes non‐tribal ground and surface water rights and endangered species protections.
