The New Landscape of NCAA NIL (Name/Image/Likeness) Deal Making
Intellectual Property Law; Entertainment and Sports Law
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling in Alston v. NCAA, the NCAA changed its policy to permit college athletes to market their name, image, and likeness (“NIL”) without losing their amateur status. This eleventh-hour decision has caused a whirlwind of activity in the collegiate athlete marketing space, and has allowed players to hire agents and enter into endorsement contracts with companies. But as with anything else, these agreements come with their risks and pitfalls. In this webinar, intellectual property attorney and sports agent Josh Escovedo will discuss the general concept of NIL and the potential intellectual property issues and other pitfalls involved for athletes and agents alike.
