Substantial Similarity in Music Copyright; 2023 IP Entertainment and Media
This is a "not to be missed" panel by two of the most renowned experts in music copyright today, Peter Anderson and Peter Menell, who will provide their insights on these crucial topics:
What is substantial similarity in music and why does the doctrine exist to determine infringement?
How do courts determine substantial similarity of musical works and what proof is required?
Is the standard different for music than it is for other types of copyrightable subject matter?
How did the 9th Circuit en banc decision in Skidmore v. Led Zeppelin affect substantial similarity going forward?
Are there better alternatives and how would they work?
The panel will be moderated by John Wierzbicki, vice-chair of the Copyright Interest Group and member of the executive committee of the IP Section.
