This is a "not to be missed" panel by two of the most renowned experts in music copyright today, Peter Anderson and Peter Menell, who will provide their insights on these crucial topics:

    • What is substantial similarity in music and why does the doctrine exist to determine infringement?
    • How do courts determine substantial similarity of musical works and what proof is required?
    • Is the standard different for music than it is for other types of copyrightable subject matter?
    • How did the 9th Circuit en banc decision in Skidmore v. Led Zeppelin affect substantial similarity going forward?
    • Are there better alternatives and how would they work?
The panel will be moderated by John Wierzbicki, vice-chair of the Copyright Interest Group and member of the executive committee of the IP Section.
