Fraud in the California Workers Compensation System: What is it?  What is the law?  Who is doing it? What should we look out for to identify it?  And what do we as a community need to know to avoid it and to prevent, report and punish it when it occurs?

We are all members of Community which has been subject to a poor image and reputation because of the actions of a minority of our members and by others who are out to profit from bending or ignoring the rules of our professions. Recent news has impacted our community’s reputation with the prosecution and discipline of attorneys, doctors and vendors. Illegal capping, improper solicitation and referral of claimants and abuse by employers (consisting) of premium fraud, misclassification fraud and fraud in the under-reporting and non-reporting of legitimate industrial injuries), and failure to secure workers’ compensation insurance, have cost our system billions of dollars.  Applicants have been prosecuted for failure to disclose material information, knowingly making a false or fraudulent material statement or material misrepresentation for the purpose of obtaining compensation.

There is the further question of whether Doctors in the UR and IMR system and MPNs have been pressured or instructed to minimize the authorization of necessary medical treatment and or to fail to acknowledge injured body parts and conditions at the instruction of the defendants. Reports of this conduct are currently being made and clearly raise serious issues which we as a community must address.

We will discuss what the practitioner needs to know, and we will discuss how to avoid becoming involved in unethical, illegal and otherwise questionable schemes and activities.
This webinar will be presented by a California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization certified specialist, Jack Goodchild, Esq and a Special investigation Unit Specialist, Teena Barton and Mike Bender SIU AVP for ICW Group Insurance Companies.
