Insurance and Covid19: An Update for Franchisees, Franchisors and Other Businesses
Franchisors and franchisees are confronting a wide range of financial losses and legal claims related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic itself, and orders issued by state and local governments, are causing financial losses that businesses nationwide are seeking to recover under any available insurance policy.Franchisees, like other businesses, face potential liability claims related to the pandemic from employees, customers, regulators and others that for which they may seek coverage under policies providing liability protection. In this context, franchisors, franchisees, and their attorneys are asking a number of questions about the insurance coverage their policies provide, what the claim process involves. This one-hour webinar seeks to answer some of those questions by addressing issues such as the current scope of property coverages in California including business interruption and the potential application of standard exclusions such as the virus or bacteria exclusion (as well as the interplay of business interruption policies and royalty obligations); the potential application of liability coverage to lawsuits under general liability, workers’ compensation, employment practices and directors’ & officers’ policies; the current status of litigation and regulatory action; and the steps businesses should take to protect their rights under their insurance policies.
