In this one-hour webinar, join Judge Myrle R. Petty (from the San Bernardino District Office of the WCAB) as she discusses the philosophy, purpose and appropriate use of the AMA Guides, 5th Edition as well as discussing the practical application of the Guides so that all users of the AMA Guides, whether attorney, physician, claims examiner or lay person can gain an increased understanding of the Guides. Since knowledge is power, the more you understand about the Guides the better you can use them for your benefit.Whether you are a physician wanting to produce more “bullet-proof” medical reports or whether you want to acquire information to help you to bolster or attack medical reports, this session will provide a starting point to understanding and using the Guides as well as a foundation for the later webinar sessions that will address the various criteria for evaluating permanent impairments in the various body systems and parts.

The Honorable Myrle R. Petty, has worked as a Workers’ Compensation Judge for the State of California for more than 20 years. She served on the bench in the Oakland and Riverside District Offices before her current posting at the San Bernardino District Office, where she has served for more than 13 years. She has written articles for the California Workers’ Compensation Quarterly and for the State Bar Workers’ Compensation Section E-Newsletter, and she is often asked to speak at educational seminars on various workers’ compensation topics, including seminars for the State Bar Workers’ Compensation Section (now California Lawyers Association Workers’ Compensation Section), WCAB Statewide Judge Training, WorkCompCentral, Workers’ Compensation Forum, California Applicant Attorney Association, California Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorneys Association, Greater Inland Empire Applicant Attorney Association, State Compensation Insurance Fund Attorney Training, San Bernardino County Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Section, California Workers’ Compensation Interpreters Association, Law Worm, CSIMS and the Council of Self-Insured Public Agencies.
