This program will provide an overview of the major changes to California Workers’ Compensation practice pursuant to entry into effect of the April 1, 2021, new medical legal fee schedule that introduced new requirements of the parties, evaluate strategies to limit and mitigate worst case scenarios, provide intelligent practice tips, a practical litigation road map, as well as a perspective on how and when medical legal fee issues are being litigated and resolved from a workers’ compensation judge’s perspective with perspective from both an applicant and defense attorney. The speakers will take us through these legal requirements and more to provide a high-level understanding of the impact of the new medical legal fee schedule on all practitioners and professionals in the industry and an insightful action plan.

Hon. Myrle Petty
The Honorable Myrle R. Petty, has worked as a Workers’ Compensation Judge for the State of California for more than 20 years. She served on the bench in the Oakland and Riverside District Offices before her current posting at the San Bernardino District Office, where she has served for more than 13 years. She has written articles for the California Workers’ Compensation Quarterly and for the State Bar Workers’ Compensation Section E-Newsletter, and she is often asked to speak at educational seminars on various workers’ compensation topics, including seminars for the State Bar Workers’ Compensation Section (now California Lawyers Association Workers’ Compensation Section), WCAB Statewide Judge Training, WorkCompCentral, Workers’ Compensation Forum, California Applicant Attorney Association, California Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorneys Association, Greater Inland Empire Applicant Attorney Association, State Compensation Insurance Fund Attorney Training, San Bernardino County Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Section, California Workers’ Compensation Interpreters Association, Law Worm, CSIMS and the Council of Self-Insured Public Agencies.
James Cotter
James Cotter is a Senior Partner with Mullen & Filippi and a Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation working out of the Walnut Creek Office. He represents carriers, public entities, and private employers in workers’ compensation claims across most Bay Area venues. In his personal time, he teaches Brazilian Jiujitsu and Wrestling and lives with his wonderful wife and newborn daughter as well as a Labrador named Luchador.
Amy Shen
Amy’s first job out of Boston University School of Law in 2003 was with Liberty Mutual Insurance, bringing her back to the Bay Area. About four years later she accepted a job as an associate at a large workers’ compensation defense firm in Oakand. She became a partner shortly thereafter and spent nearly 11 years with the firm before joining Boxer+Gerson on the applicant side of the table. Here, she feels that she is truly helping people when they are facing difficult circumstances in their lives. When she is not working, she is spending time with her five year old daughter and husband and very active one year old shepherd cattle dog mix.
