2018 CLA Annual Meeting: Independent Contractors…The Perils of Misclassification
Many solo, small firms and businesses classify workers as independent contractors; but this classification can be challenged and exposes the business to significant civil liability. This program will address the key factors in undertaking and making a proper determination as to whether independent contractor status is viable per the common law test, IRS test and other agency test. This program also provides an overview of tax, penalties and wage and hour consequences and the new California Supreme Court ruling in Dynamex Operations West, Inc. v. Superior Court.
