The panelists will explore the practitioner’s obligations under Circular 230, the California Rules of Professional Conduct, and the ABA Model Rules for providing a client with oral and/or written tax advice. The discussion will include issues related to due diligence, competence, and the reasonable practitioner standard as it relates to written opinions. After an overview of the rules, the panelists will use a current tax planning technique as a discussion piece to exhibit the practical application of the practitioner’s professional responsibilities.
