This webinar will examine how California practitioners can challenge forensic and other expert evidence at trial and in postconviction litigation. Drawing from trial and habeas practice, the presentation will address cognitive bias as a throughline in criminal cases; the limits and subjectivity of many forensic disciplines; discovery strategies for uncovering laboratory materials and expert communications; and practical methods for deconstructing prosecution expert opinions. It will also offer concrete strategies for building a new narrative through timelines, independent experts, scientific literature, and a careful reexamination of how the state’s case was constructed and presented to the jury.
