The effective use of documentary and physical evidence is critical to a strong trial presentation.  This session will address how to properly and efficiently introduce different types of evidence at trial, such as business records, emails, audio and video recordings, and physical evidence.  The speakers will also provide practical tips about how lawyers can use documentary evidence to guide and structure their direct and cross examinations.  Finally, the speakers will discuss how to address and avoid common evidentiary issues that arise during trial.

    Julian Andre

Julian André is a Partner in McDermott Will & Emery LLP’s Los Angeles office.  An experienced trial attorney and former federal prosecutor, Julian’s practice focuses on government prosecutions, enforcement actions and investigations, complex civil litigation, and internal investigations.

During his time at McDermott, Julian has successfully defended clients in connection with numerous federal and state criminal prosecutions and investigations.  He has also represented clients in False Claims Act investigations, ERISA class actions, securities litigation, and intellectual property disputes, saving his clients millions of dollars in potential fines and judgments.

Prior to rejoining McDermott in 2021, Julian spent six years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles.  While an AUSA, Julian served in the Major Frauds Section where he investigated and prosecuted complex financial crimes, including health care fraud, securities fraud, bank fraud, education fraud, CARES Act fraud, bankruptcy fraud, import/export crimes, tax crimes and money laundering.  Two marquee cases handled during his time as a federal prosecutor include the prosecutions of Michael Avenatti and China Zhongwang.

Julian is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and served as a law clerk for the Honorable Harry Pregerson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
