Making Retirement Benefits Payable to Trusts The IRS restated ALL the required minimum distribution (RMD) regulations in 2022. The new (proposed) regulations set out a SIMPLE EASY 4-step process for determining the “countable beneficiaries” of a trust named as beneficiary of a retirement account. Once you know the “countable beneficiaries,” learn which of the 6 (!) possible payout periods applies to your trust. (Spoiler alert: you probably won’t like the results.) When should you modify the client’s plan to improve RMD results—or not? This webinar will cover the above plus: special drafting conundrums (traps in trusts for minors; what are “separate accounts” and when do you need them; when/why/how to use “last one standing” clause; toggles). Plus:
Death and Taxes: Dealing with Inherited Retirement Benefits New RMD rules befuddle beneficiaries, executors, and trustees. Post-mortem ways to “fix” the plan. Transferring IRAs into and out of estates and trusts. The fiduciary’s role and deadlines.
