ABA Model Rule 6.1 and the California State Bar’s Pro Bono Resolution strongly encourages all attorneys provide at least 50 hours of pro bono representation per year, which is more important now than ever as our communities face devastating setbacks and losses. This panel will discuss the pro bono opportunities for tax professionals, including full- and limited-scope representation in Tax Court and beyond. The panel will also discuss the ethical dilemmas that arise when working with pro bono taxpayers and pro se petitioners from both the practitioner and government’s perspectives.
