Join us for a comprehensive program describing EAROs including relevant case and statutory law. Topics will include standing, burden of proof, evidence, the scope of orders that can be issued, and attorney fees. The program will discuss the interplay of domestic violence restraining orders, emergency protective orders, and civil restraining orders with EAROs. The program will include case examples and their application with attention to the protective nature of the proceeding for the health and safety of the elder.

Hon. Sandra K. Bean
Judge Sandra Bean has served in the Alameda County Superior Court since 2007. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Santa Clara University Law School. She is currently the supervising judge of Probate, hearing Probate trials, and handling all Trust matters. As a judge, she has served in Criminal, Family, Civil, Juvenile, and Probate. Prior to taking the bench, she was a Deputy County Counsel in Alameda County representing the Public Guardian, Adult Protective Services, and the Public Administrator. She is chairperson of the Probate CJER Curriculum Committee and the CJA Probate Committee. She frequently teaches at Probate Orientations and Probate Institutes on topics including Decedent’s Estates, Trusts, Conservatorships, and Guardianships. Her publications include an Action Guide Meeting Statutory Deadlines: During and After Litigation for Continuing Education of the Bar as well as serving as reviewing editor for the “California Judges Bench guide 120: LPS Proceedings” for the Center for Judicial Education and Research (CJER).
D. Robert Dieringer
Robert Dieringer is a Partner at Green Bryant & French, LLP. Rob focuses his law practice exclusively on civil elder abuse, trust, conservatorship, and probate litigation. Rob is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Probate Attorneys of San Diego; past-Chair of the Elder Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association; former Adjunct Professor at Cuyamaca College; and former Member of the Board of Directors of the Lawyer Referral Information Service of the San Diego County Bar Association.
Rob is also active in the California legislature in the area of Elder Law, having co-authored, through the California Conference of Bar Associations, the following laws: Resolution 06-01-2016, “Replacement of Dementia with Major Neurocognitive Disorder,” adopted as (2017) SB 413 by Senator Mike L. Morrell (R-Rancho Cucamonga) and signed into law by Governor Brown on July 24, 2017; and Resolution 02-11-2014, “Termination of Dementia Powers,” adopted as (2015) AB 436 by Assembly member Brian W. Jones (R-Santee) and signed into law by Governor Brown on August 13, 2015. Rob is a State Bar of California accredited Certified Elder Law Attorney (2019) and Certified Legal Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law (2018). Rob is 2023-2024 SuperLawyer and a SuperLawyer Rising Star 2018-2022.
Hon. Ana Maria Luna
Judge Ana Maria Luna has served as a bench officer in the Los Angeles Municipal and Superior Courts since 1992. She holds undergraduate degrees in Biological Sciences and Spanish from the University of California, Irvine. She received her juris doctorate degree from the University of Southern California Gould Law School in 1984. Before joining the bench in 1992, Judge Luna practiced as a family law attorney and as a deputy public defender in Los Angeles County. She has served as faculty for Center for Judicial Education & Research (California) and taught at the National Judicial College (Reno). She is a past vice-president of the California Judges Association. She served on the state Judicial Council from 1998 to 2001. Judge Luna has presided over family law matters for six years where she heard child custody, support and financial issues in marital dissolution and parentage actions. In 2020, Judge Luna was reassigned to the Probate Division where she handles a calendar court managing estate, trust, guardianship and conservatorship cases including long cause trials. She is frequently asked to present to bar associations and professional organizations on cross-over issues in probate and family law, trust and conservatorship issues and case management/trial best practices. In her spare time, she enjoys knitting, reading and walking/hiking.
