The rental housing industry has been heavily impacted by COVID-19 causing an onslaught of emergency orders and regulations aimed to protect tenants from evictions during the pandemic.

On August 31, 2020, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB-3088, enacting the COVID-19 Tenant Relief Act of 2020. This legislation, among other things, provides eviction protections for tenants who have been financially impacted by Covid-19 and imposes just cause eviction protections on nearly all residential tenancies.

We will take a deep dive into the protections offered to residential tenants, including restrictions on nonpayment of rent evictions and a review of the just causes for eviction. We will also discuss mandatory noticing requirements for landlords, and offer practical compliance tips.
