    Come hear about the Supreme Court and Appellate Court Bias Prevention Committee, which was established in March 2023 to support the integrity and impartiality of the judicial system and promote an appellate court environment free of bias and the appearance of bias.

    Justice Helen Bendix
    Martin Jenkins, Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeal
    Hon. Martin Jenkins - Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division Three. Justice Jenkins began his legal career as a prosecutor for the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office from 1980-1983. In 1983, Judge Jenkins joined the United States Department of Justice as a trial attorney. He also worked as a civil trial attorney for Pacific Bell. He was appointed to the Oakland Municipal Court in 1989. In 1992, he was elevated to the Alameda County Superior Court. In 1997 he was appointed to the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. In 2008, Justice Jenkins was confirmed to the First District Court of Appeal.
    Benjamin Gross Shatz
    Benjamin G. Shatz is a Certified Appellate Specialist and co-chair of the Appellate Practice at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips in Los Angeles. He is a member of the American and California Academies of Appellate Lawyers. He has over 25 years of state and federal civil appellate experience and is a frequent lecturer and author on appellate practice.
