  Description

The Golden State—already an international leader in rooftop solar and at integrating utility-scale projects to its grid—has something of a “missing middle” when it comes to the types of distributed generation projects that have interconnected to the grid. While California’s clean energy growth has been dominated by larger renewable projects procured by investor-owned utilities and smaller customer-sited rooftop solar projects, a few dozen or so innovative distributed generation projects have tried to break this mold. This panel will spotlight several case studies, including emerging models for microgrids and resiliency hubs, community and shared solar projects, and other envelope-pushing distributed generation projects in California that are seeking to shift the clean energy paradigm.
